Jewellery Making. (Complete Beginners)
This is a one evening a week class for 5 weeks.
About the Course
This workshop focus on the core techniques that you need to create jewellery. This includes soldering, piercing, texturing and finishing. You will also learn how to create your own project based on stone setting. You will come away with various pieces including a stone set ring.
Week One: Fee will give a demonstration on texturing, using hammers, drilling and finishing techniques. Students will learn how to cut metal and start to plan a piercing project which will continue throughout the 5 week course.
Week Two: Students will learn to use the jewellers’ pliers for bending, use the gas-torch and practice the art of silver soldering. You will have the opportunity to make a wire ring.
Week Three: Fee will demonstrate how to make a band ring and texture it using punches. You will learn how to correctly size a ring and make your own. (Silver can be purchased for an additional £5)
Week Four: Stone setting! Fee will demonstrate how to create a cabochon stone-setting that you can set with a stone or beach-glass.
Week Five: Students will be shown how to finish their Jewellery.
The course is run by Fiona Cocks BA(Hons) who is has been teaching classes for over 10 years. She is enthusiastic and fun. The 2.5 hour sessions takes place in the workshops of Bigbury Mint, which is in Ermington, near Ivybridge, in the heart of the South Hams area of Devon.
Courses run on Thurdays evenings. We can take group-bookings at other times as well.
What’s included in the price?
All tools and materials are provided. Turn up ready for a 6pm start on Thursday evenings with clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and enclosed shoes or boots suitable for a workshop (not flip-flops or sandals). Parking is available right outside.

If the notice is less than 30 days, then we can only refund 50% of your payment. We retain the right to refuse entry to anyone who is aggressive or under the influence of drugs including alcohol.
