Description
Medal Mounting Service
Our medal mounting service includes medal cleaning and new medal ribbon at no extra cost!*
Bigbury Mint Ltd have a team of skilled seamstresses who are fully conversant with current uniform regulations.
Military medals and commemorative medals can be mounted as a single medal or mounted as a group of medals.
There are two styles of medal mounting;
Swing Style medal mounting
Medals mounted swing style are mounted on a medal brooch bar which can then be pinned to your tunic or a pocket holder. Swing style mounting allows the medals to move or ‘swing’ when worn. We sometimes refer to this method as the “jingly jangly” as the medals will bounce off each other when worn.
Court Style medal mounting
Medals mounted court style are fixed to a rigid backing material called buckram. Court style mounting holds the medals firmly in place and prevents them ‘chinking’ together and damaging each other when worn.
Medal Mounting Frequently Asked Questions;
Q. Do you use glue to stick medals to the backing when you are court mounting?
A. No! Definitely not. We hand stitch medal ribbon to the buckram and anchor medals with invisible thread. We only ever use glue purely as a guide when over-stitching the felt backing onto the rear of a court mount set of medals. This ensures your medals will stay secure…even on wet parades!
Q. What do you use as backing material for mounting medals?
A. We use Buckram which is a very stiff fabric used to stiffen clothes. We actually double layer the buckram to ensure your court mounted medals will not sag or bend at the corners. This also ensures that the brooch pin is supported properly.
*If you do not require the medals to be cleaned, please specify this in the “Additional Comments” area of the form.

After a number of years debating what to do with my fathers medals I contacted Bigbury to discuss. The staff were so helpful, outlining options an I chose display boxes instead of a wall mounted frame as we had a large and small set of medals.
The service was quick,within the week we received a phone call the day prior to delivery, they arrived the following day by registered post and we were delighted with the result. Two beautiful blue leather boxes with velvet lining on which the medals are displayed beautifully and will be easily transportable should we need to take them to relatives. A huge thank you to the staff, we are so pleased with them.

P Bennett –
I asked for my 2 medals to be mounted court style. It was something I had planned to do for a number of years but had found reasons to put off. I think I was worried about loss mainly as I have had a couple of parcels vanish in postal transit in the past. I finally took the chance and sent them off. The company rung me up to say they had received the medal the next day which put me at ease. I received them back within a few days through registered post completely finished. One medal showed its age and looked dull and lifeless but upon return it was gleaming and matched the sheen of the second one. Have I any criticism? Well nothing is perfect. The pin at the back was very difficult to lock and took me an age to set it in the pocket holder. I am sure I will get used to it but I have to admit liking the older one that was returned with the original ribbons. The second criticism is that with the holder attached it does not fit in the storage case I had ordered to house the medals so need to remove it each time I put the medals away. It is something to bear in mind. Am I happy with what I have had done? YES, It is definitely worth 5 stars and I would recommend this company to others and I will use them again without hesitation.

Thank you so much for the fantastic job you have done on my dad’s WW2 medals I can’t thank you enough they look amazing, I’m so happy I sent them to you wonderful people.
Simon Marsden –
Had my five medals court mounted and I am absolutely delighted with the quality of the work. Superb! The only comment I would like to draw to Bigbury’s attention is that the pin on the rear of the medal group is too large to fit the pocket medal holder that I purchased from you. It now fits but only after I opened it up with a drill.
Carol B –
My medal was badly in need of a new ribbon. I sent it off, had a phone call when it arrived and an email when the job was completed. Very pleased with the service and result

Very pleased with the replica medals and clasp that I ordered from Bigbury mint. They look fantastic in the 3 medal and photo presentation frame. I also got a brass plaque which looks very good with the engraving as per my selection. So in summary, I am so happy i decided to honour my grandad’s service in WW2 with a family memory. Thank you Bigbury mint.
Richard C –
Very efficent and great service. I was informed as soon as my minature medals were received by them, and as there were quite a few I was a little concerned about using an online service as before I’ve always used the garison tailor. I didn’t need to be, they returned the medals within 14 days all correctly and well mounted. All in all excellent service well recomended for us who are serving in a non garrison location.
