Royal Ulster Constabulary Service Medal After 2001 EIIR Miniature

Instituted: 1982.

Branch of Service: RUC and its Reserve.

Ribbon: Following the award of the George Cross to the RUC the ribbon of this medal was modified to reflect the award. The colour of the GC ribbon is now indicated by two vertical blue stripes at the outer edges.

Original Metal: Cupro-nickel.

Size: 36mm.

Description: (Obverse) the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II; (reverse) the crowned harp insignia of the RUC with the words FOR SERVICE round the foot.

The medal is awarded to all officers, petty officers and ratings of the RFA after 20 years’ service. Clasps will be granted for a further 10 years service. The recipient’s name and rank, together with date of qualification, are impressed on the rim. The first awards of this medal were made to three petty officers in 2003, a further 400 personnel being eligible.
