Awarded to all ranks in the Special Constabulary for 9 years unpaid service, with more than 50 duties per annum. War service with at least 50 duties counted triple. Clasps inscribed LONG SERVICE, with the date, are awarded for additional ten-year periods. To qualify during the two world wars a special constable must have served without any pay for not less than three years, and during that period have performed at least 50 duties a year, and be recommended by a chief officer of police as willing and competent to discharge the duties of special constable as required, i.e. in both world wars service counts treble.
