Instituted: 17 November 1952.

Branch of Service Army Emergency Reserve.

Ribbon: 38mm dark blue with a central yellow stripe.

Original Metal: Silver and silver-gilt.

Size: Height 55mm; max. width 37mm.

Description: An oval skeletal badge, with the monarch’s cypher surmounted by a crown in an oak wreath. Suspension is by a ring through the top of the crown and it is worn with a brooch bar inscribed ARMY EMERGENCY RESERVE.

Awarded for 12 years commissioned service. Officers commissioned in the Army Supplementary Reserve or Army Emergency Reserve of Offices between 8 August 1942 and 15 May 1948 who transferred to the Regular Army Reserve of Officers after 10 years service
were also eligible. War service counts double and previous service in the ranks counts half. The ERD was abolished in 1967 on the formation of the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve.
