Cornish Tin

The tin used for this paper-weight was recovered from the shipwreck of the S.S. cheerful which sank en-route from London to Liverpool, in the early hours of 20th July 1885. She was run down in the thick fog by a torpedo ship H.M.S. Hecla and the collision resulted in the loss of thirteen lives.

The ingots, each stamped with a smelter’s mark, have been skilfully recovered from the seabed by divers. Some, in a poor condition, have been re-smelted by the Cornish Tin Company to make these stunning reminders of the heritage of Cornish Tin.
