To celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Awarded to all personnel of the Armed Forces who were in service on 6th February 2002 and had completed 5 years service.

It was also issued to members of the Police, Prison Service, Ambulance, Coastguard, Fire Services, RNLI, Mountain Rescue and members of the Royal Household.

Almost 400, 000 were issued.

Ribbon: Royal blue with thin red stripes at the edges, a broad white stripe in the centre and a thin red stripe down the middle.

Original Metal: Gold-plated cupro-nickel.

Size: 32mm.

Description: (Obverse) a right facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown; (reverse) the royal coat of arms flanked by the dates 1952 and 2002.

Issued to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Queen’s accession. It was granted to all personnel of the armed forces who had completed five or more years service on February 6, 2002. Generals who have been Chief of the General Staff and Chief of the Defence Staff or equivalent RN and RAF ranks were awarded the medal even though retired. It was also issued to members of the police, ambulance, coastguard, fire services, RNLI and mountain rescue services, as well as members of the Royal Household including The Queen's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard, who had completed five years service and holders of the VC or GC. One member of HM Customs & Excise was awarded the medal by the Ministry of Defence to mark his close cooperation in work and liaison between the two departments. Almost 400,000 medals were issued.
